Presided over by Warden Thelwater , the Stockade is home to petty crooks, political insurgents, murderers, and a score of the most dangerous criminals in the land. Recently, a prisoner-led revolt has resulted in a state of pandemonium within the Stockades - where the guards have been overthrown and the convicts roam free. Mac was a year-old boy who volunteered to serve as a guard in the Stockade when the Stormwind Army was sent off to the front.
Mac reprimanded some of the prisoners for tearing their wool blankets to make scarves, a symbol of their gang. For that, Mac was stabbed in the back and killed. Warden Thelwater has managed to defend himself, and is currently enlisting brave thrill-seekers to venture into the prison and put down the uprising, thought to have been instigated by some new prisoners - the terrifying menace known only as "Hogger" and his violent Riverpaw pack of gnolls.
During the Cataclysm , non-violent criminals were sent from the Stockades to the Barrens as a penal legion under the Northwatch Expeditionary Unit.
Some of them looted Camp Taurajo against their orders. They also tried to release Saurfang, but he refused to go with them. Along the way his escape was aided by Master Mathias Shaw of SI:7 , who told guards to take the night off thus allowing Saurfang to sneak by, but it is unknown if Saurfang knew he had help or not. During the course of the war, Captain Zalkran was captured and sent to the Stockade.
Anduin Wrynn personally watched the procession of apothecary Cotley into the stockades where he ordered for the Forsaken to be treated fairly and due to be set free after being thoroughly questioned.
After Sira Moonwarden was captured by the Horde , she was transferred to Alliance custody as the beginning payment of what was owed by the Horde to Tyrande Whisperwind. Sira was subsequently sent to the Stockade. Stormwind Stockade is located inside of Stormwind City, on the northernmost section of the canal surrounding the Mage Quarter , the building is marked with a meeting stone directly next to its doorway, the actual entrance into the instance is directly inside the building, down the small, open set of stairs.
For Alliance characters, the Stockade is without a doubt the easiest instance to simply walk in to, being in what is arguably the most popular of the Alliance cities.
For Horde, this is a different story, and if one wishes to enter the instance in a manner besides queuing for it at the correct level, it's going to take a bit of work. One popular way for Horde characters to enter the Stockade is to gain access to the port on the eastern side of the city, this can be done by swimming or using Path of Frost or other similar water-walking abilities to swim to the port from Westfall , once in the port one can make their way through the canals to the instance.
Stormwind Stockade is a very cramped instance. It consists primarily of three hallways, each with branching rooms extending from them. The two northernmost hallways have two circular rooms on the ends, both containing a boss fight, while the middle hallways extend to another important room containing a boss fight. Wowpedia Explore. Comment by this is a great instance to power lvl in but the worse for drops so go for the exp and go some where else for drops such as deadmines or VC.
Comment by Mesosneaky Just ran my daughter's low level Tauren Hunter thru for the first time only my 2nd even being here and the rare spawn, Bruegal Ironknuckle, was indeed there. He dropped the Prison Shank. Did it mostly for the achievement, though. Comment by Great place along with Deadmines for farming wool. Comment by Thottbot Aside from the drops the rare dwarf spawn gives, there are other things no one has mentioned yet.
For starters, the famous Skeletal Club 19 twink 1h mace is a random drop here. I can say this for a fact as I've gotten it before soloed on a 44 rogue.
Aside from that, there are a lot of really nice green drops. I have personally always had really good experiences doing Stocks, especially now that I can solo it and get all the drops. Comment by Thottbot the right location of meeting stone is 43, It's near mage quarter but not inside, by the canal. Comment by Thottbot I went in here to solo it as a 50 lock I ended up dying only having to res once or twice on the way there, I went with a group of rogues that were causing havoc.

Comment by Thottbot I just did this as a lvl 80 Shammy np. I recommend taking off amour and running through SW naked so u dont have a huge repair bill. I only died once but man its a looong way back from the graveyard. I just did it for the achievement and dont reccommend it for loot, it sux!
Comment by Thottbot Little tip. I got the acheivment and also fished in stormwind and orgimmar for another acheivment while i was there. I logged in on my ally mage and planned my route lol then run through with my dk and jumped into water and swam most of the way then run in. Didnt die once and i got plenty of wool :.
Comment by Thottbot I'm an 80 pally, trying for Classic Dungeonmaster and Loremaster achievements, so I ended up running Stockades solo. A run through - killing most, but not everyone - took about 20 minutes. I got: 10 silk 44 wool 18 linen 9 white food items 1 healing potion 1 lesser mana potion 9 greens 12 grays quest items a couple of gold, total FYI for Loremaster: after completing the Bazil Thredd quest , a non-dungeon questline opens up that adds another 9 quests.
You will die approximatively times depending on how much players and guards sees you Then walk each time for 5 minutes from the border of Elwynn Forest to Stormwind..
It will take 15 minutes to get in the Stockade.
