Diablo III. Diablo II. TBC Classic. Path of Exile. Main tank was our best-geared protection warrior, and heals consisted of myself and one other holy paladin, two resto shamans, a resto druid and three holy priests, one of whom was LV69!
DPS was heavily ranged with the odd smattering of melee. We even had two of our guildies dual-box their Alliance accounts and bring an extra boomkin and hunter to get in on the fun. The trick to Kazzak, once you've cleared the adds around his dais, is to push as hard as you can as fast as you can.
If the fight lasts over about a minute and a half, you will need some serious luck to finish. Both paladins focused on chain-casting max-rank Holy Light on the main tank as their only task. DPS unloaded as soon as the tank had enough aggro boosted by Misdirects on the tank and Blessing of Salvation on DPS but kept their cooldowns for the shadow volley. When the shadow volley came, everyone popped every CD they had, bubbles, trinkets, pots, freakin' Cloak of Shadows, whatever was clickable and ready.
This combined with AOE heals from the shamans and priests allowed us to DPS straight through the shadow volleys and make up a lot of time that we would have otherwise lost "getting the hell out of there" as other strategies advised.
We did not have a single death with this approach. Drops were the healer staff which, amusingly, went to the 69 holy priest , the plate tanking gloves, and one random green.

Mark of Kazzak Casts a curse on a random player in range with mana that drains the target's mana for per second and explodes for 4, AOE damage when there is no more mana to drain. A living bomb. Cleave Attacks a number of melee range players around him with a cleaving strike that deals damage to each.
Since a 'blind spot' has not been found, Cleave might be capped to a certain number of players affected. Thunderclap A point blank area of effect spell, hardly dealing any damage, but slowing movement speed. Some have reported damage, some say it doesn't deal damage at all. Doesn't seem to affect attacking speed either. Void Bolt A strong bolt he may cast only on the player with aggro, deals up to shadow damage or more! Capture Soul When a player, pet or totem gets killed, Lord Kazzak casts this spell to instantly regenerate 70, health.
Alright, now you know pretty well what you're fighting against. Here's how the battle itself works: Once he is aggroed and the fight begins, you have no more than three 3 minutes to kill him. I'll explain later why. He starts off with everything he's got. He keeps meleeing the main tank while Cleaving once in a while for rogues swarming around him and keeps sending Shadowbolt Volleys to hurt everyone around. The volleys are not on a timer, instead he casts them as he sees fit.
In some rare cases there's about 30 seconds between the casts, sometimes he does it every five seconds. In the meantime, he casts Twisted Reflection and the rarer Mark of Kazzak on random people. What to do here: Send your main tank in and let him build some aggro for a short while, just enough so he won't come at you the first time you cast something on him.
Then unload. Have your DPS classes give him everything they have. Priests have to be extra mindful about the magical debuff he casts on your group. It has to be removed as soon as possible or the attempt will soon end in a disaster. Priests are also in charge of healing their groups thanks to that Shadowbolt Volley that keeps hitting everyone all the time.
Mages need to be on top of the curse situtation. Mark of Kazzak can and will cause a wipe if you let it go off on you. Dispel the curse as soon as you can. All casters should also leave about mana in their mana pool just in case he casts the curse on you.
That'll give the mages four seconds to dispel before it goes off. In other words, mana is out of mana in this raid encounter. Also, anyone dying during the fight is not an option. Unless it happens during the first five seconds of the fight, you've failed already. Do not use grounding totems, pets or other small things he can kill for the 70, health heal. Your group will have exactly three minutes to finish the demon off.
If you fail to kill him in that time due to lack of DPS, people dying or not dispelling Twisted Reflection properly, Lord Kazzak will enter what is called the supreme mode. Named after his yell once it triggers, the supreme mode causes him to cast his Shadowbolt every second. That's DPS on everyone, kids, and that means a wipe.

I was frightened. It was very scary, and he costed me a repair bill. I oathed to myself that the first thing that i would do when i hit 60 was to kill that dude and get my Eye of Shadow, and I did it! Comment by Allakhazam Just did this guy with 40 persons. He only casted 1 curse in all the time we were there. He is very easy, you could do it with people atleast! As already stated, nothing in particular wrong with that tactic… and any guild who wants to take down a world boss can use the same tactic. It was fun the first time in forever, but after realizing I was slogging through fights for 5 hours and having people switch to their alliance accounts to contest, only to down the boss and get some nature resist gear that no one really cares about that was good enough for me.
I remember sitting on that hill in Azshara way too much so our priest could get some helm or something he obsessed over. It has spawned at every time block you could imagine on Whitemane. Just unlucky.
